Winter Bird Count on Sunday, January 10th in Rouge Park

We are pleased to announce that, we are participating in Rouge Park’s seventh annual Winter Bird Count on Sunday, January 10th.
Any volunteer is welcome, no matter what your birding skills are. It is a fun and educational event. If you are new to birding, this is an excellent experience to learn from skilled birders or simply to learn more about Rouge Park and the wildlife within it.

Time: 7:30am
Meeting location: Parking lot across Leslie subway station on Sheppard St. (North West corner of Leslie and Sheppard).
We carpool to the park and visa versa.
We will go to the Rouge Park in Scarborough (close to the Toronto Zoo) and the count starts at 8:00am.
We can stay there as long as we wish.
At the end of the day (3:00pm), count teams are invited to meet at the West Rouge Community Centre to compile data and share a hot meal provided by Rouge Park.

If you join us, please bundle up, wear multiple layers, waterproof clothing and cover as much skin as possible. We also recommend that you bring hot beverage, snacks for the day, binoculars, field guides and cameras if you have them. These items are not mandatory, but they may help you during the day.

Recognition Ceremony for Bill Hogharth, Director of Education YRDSB (Dec 02, 09)

We are pleased to announce that Toronto Iranians Community Group, along with 9 other Iranian organizations sponsored an event to recognize Bill Hogharth and presented him with a beautiful small Persian Rug .

The number of Iranians who choose to reside in York Region is on the rise. Recent data from the Reception Centre, where new students are received, shows that Farsi is one of the top five
languages spoken at the schools in this area. Every day, hundreds of our children and youth walk into schools in this region. Supporting children and showcasing their cultural background are crucial to their success.

One of the most supportive figures in this regard has been Bill Hogharth, the director of the YRDSB. He has always been very understanding and instrumental in addressing the needs of our
community. He has gone beyond his duty to support students of Persian descent. He has also been very encouraging in building relationship with our community and attending different community gatherings and fund-raising events.


In the ceremony, community expressed its appreciation and recognized Bill Hogharth for his directorship, generosity and openness

Tree Planting Festival on Earth Day (Apr 26)

We are glad to announce our participation on Earth Day Event on Sunday April 26, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Downsview Park.

We will celebrate the Earth Day at Downsview Park and make our mark in the development of Canada’s First National Urban Park.
We will participate in The Team Green Challenge to promote positive environmental action by planting trees. We will also join Power the SoundCycle. This year, the entertainment at Downsview Park’s Earth Day not only will be eco-entertaining and informative, but will be powered by green energy. Instead of using traditional generators to power the sound system on stage, this year’s PA system will be powered using the SoundCycle – a bicycle-powered energy source. 10 bikes will be provided and we will be scheduled to ride in half-hour intervals. Bikes will be on a stationary set-up.

The following festivities will also be hosted in the park:
The best in up-and-coming eco-focused musical entertainment by Mr. Something Something & the SoundCycle
The educational animal shows by the Canadian Raptor Conservatory and Reptilia.
Please dress for the weather, wear comfortable clothing, sturdy close-toed shoes, long pants, and bring sunscreen and drinking water.

Toronto Iranians is going to plant trees as part of the Team Green Challenge at Earth at Downsview Park on Sunday, April 26th, 2009.

Earth Day and the Team Green Challenge is rain or shine so come prepared for all of the elements.

Arrival & Sign-In

Please arrive with all of the members of your team at the Registration Tent 20 minutes before your designated activity time. All teams MUST sign-in in order to proceed with their activity. Teams competing in the “Biggest Team” challenge must present all of their team members to Downsview Park staff at the Registration Tent to be counted towards the team’s total number of participants.

مراسم سنتی چهارشنبه سوری امسال نیز همچون دو سال گذشته در میدان ملستمن برگزار می شود. کمیته برگزاری مراسم چهارشنبه سوری از همگان دعوت می کند روز سه شنبه 18 مارس از ساعت 6 تا 10 بعدازظهر در مراسم برگزاری جشن چهار شنبه سوری که در میدان ملستمن، شماره 5100 خیابان یانگ برگزار می شود، شرکت کنند.
در کنار هم با مراسم آتش بازی و برنامه های متنوع هنری تفریحی به استقبال جشن های نوروزی برویم.
به اطلاع عموم شرکت کنندگان در این مراسم می رساند که نظر به ازدحام بسیارجمعیت وضرورت رعایت قوانین و مقرارات ایمنی شهرداری و سازمان آتش نشانی آوردن هرگونه مواد آتش بازی و ایجاد آتش در محل اجرای مراسم کاملا ممنوع است.
